Tour guide

In November 2019 we visited the ancient neighbourhood of Kerameikos, in the centre of Athens, west of the area of Theseion together with our guide Ms Valena Kefalou.

First we visited the 2 Jewish Synagogues, which were established in the beginning of the 20th century, one of which is still working.

Next we visited the Jewish Holocaust MonumentIt’s a piece of architecture made of 7 pieces representing the star of David. Six pieces are triangular and one is hexagonal representing the remaining Jewish in the world.

After that we entered the site of Kerameikos. Kerameikos took its name after the word Keramos (tile made of clay) because in this area there were ceramic workshops from ancient times. It was also the public cemetery of Athens  for prominent Athenians and warriors.

Kerameikos connected several areas of ancients Athens, Piraeus, the port of Athens,  Eleysina, famous for ancient rituals (Eleusinia mysteria) with the area of Ancient Agora and the Acropolis. The parade of the most famous Athenian feast, Panathinaia passed through Kerameikos to end at the Acropolis.

Handmade crafts, Ceramics workshop

In December 2019 we worked on handmade crafts.

We made ceramic cups and candle holders with the help of professional ceramists Lambrini Karousou and Vangellis Mertzanis at Coocoo creations ceramic workshop.

We used clay for our crafts.

Clay, mostly found in white or red (terracotta) is a type of mineral found underground in various qualities. In our workshop we worked with white clay.

We visited the workshop twice. We formed our crafts, then they were let out to dry naturally in the air, then embellished on the outside and put in an oven at 1000 degrees.

During our second meeting  we decorated and painted our crafts with special paints for ceramics. Our crafts were put again in the oven at 1000 degrees, were covered in special glass film and put again in the oven at 1000 degrees.

After Actionbound workshop Croatian students created a digital tour guide(scavenger hunt) for their hometown Osijek and used it while hosting another Erasmus mobility in another project. They took Erasmus students from different countries around their town using this digital tour guide they created.

Handmade crafts

A local entrepreneur did a workshop with our students
on the topic of Handcrafts. She is a local artist who creates her products (jewellery,
clothes, different items for everyday use...). After her workshop students created handmade pixel magnets that they gave as presents to students from different countries in our another Erasmus project.
